Kensington Community Church uses Text Ripple in Real-time Voting

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Kensington Community Church provided the subject, Text Ripple provided the platform that allowed hundreds of people to take part in a real-time vote via SMS Text Message.
The technology is more than intuitive; before the speaker was able to fully explain the directions on how to vote, a dozen or so people had already cast their votes. Preemptive? Possibly. Or maybe it is an indication on how easily this technology is to learn. The people in the audience seem to have no problem using their existing technology, anything from plain mobile phones to blackberry, iphone, and smartphones, to complete such a complex task in such a small amount of time. They literally had about thirty or forty seconds to learn.
What this means is that Text Ripple can provide a powerful solution to old problems with a small learning curve. This is the same sort of platform that allows millions of voters to chose the winner on shows like American Idol. American Idol doesn’t even need to give instructions – viewers just figure it out, tens of millions of votes that overshadow the number of votes cast in the last presidential election.
Mobile voting is a time-saver. Counting votes, even counting hands can be a long process. Most electronic voting machines cost thousands of dollars, and are not infinitely scalable: purchase ten vote counters, and you can only count ten votes at a time. Whether it is only a few hundred voters or millions, SMS Text Message voting can accommodate any number, making it versatile with instant tallies, data storage, and nearly no-set up time. Once your account is active, it is always on!
It is clear that Kensington Community Church has chosen Text Ripple as its easiest-to-use and most cost-effective solution. Their short preview Text Ripple’s mobile technology allowed them to continue with their presentation seamlessly without interruptions from old and tedious methods of counting votes.
